There’s so much to love about hot summer vacations. From endless sunshine and days at the beach (or on boats), to late dinners or sunsets and forming a daily gelato self-care ritual. Choose to take your summer break in Greece, hopping between islands. Or venture to the Rockies, where adventure and nature are waiting. Or slow down in the Tuscan countryside, where rolling hills, vineyards, and long, lazy lunches lie. It’s never too early to start dreaming about your summer vacation. So whether you’re ready to kick back on a beach, explore nature or bounce between Europe’s great cities, here is where to travel in summer.
June is a magical time for summer vacations. Often you’ll beat the crowds but still enjoy amazing weather. Go on a safari in Kenya, explore America’s national parks like Yellowstone before the waterfalls dry up, or enjoy a subtropical winter on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Book ahead if you want to enjoy a beach vacation to Greece, Turkey, Italy, Croatia, Spain, or Portugal. In July catch the fragrant lavender fields of Provence, enjoy the lush greens of Ireland, spot brown bears in Scandinavia, and – if you time it right - see the Great Migration in Tanzania.
Summer vacations are at their peak in Europe, so you’ll want to plan ahead to beat the crowds or score a seat on tours. It’s the best time to visit destinations like the United Kingdom (where Edinburgh Fringe takes over in August), Scandinavia, and national parks in North America.
July and August are the most popular months for summer tours to the Greek islands. June and September are often an even better time to visit thanks to fewer crowds and still lovely warm weather.
You can catch the Great Migration in Africa from July to November. Between July and August the wildebeest move through Kenya’s Maasai Mara in huge numbers – safari goers love watching them cross the rivers.
The best time to visit most US National Parks is during the summer holidays break. Why? The weather is amazing, the wildlife is abundant and it’s a wonderful time to be outdoors late into the evening.
