Meatballs

Known as köttbullar in Sweden and kjøttboller in Norway, you'll find these succulent meatballs all across Scandinavia. Made from spiced minced beef or pork and served with potatoes, peas, brown cream gravy, lingonberry jam or pressed cucumbers depending where you are, no matter how they're dished up, they’re sure to be irresistible.

Scandinavian Sandwich

The most beloved Scandinavian sandwich is the smørrebrød from Denmark. The name literally means ‘butter and bread’ and this classic open sandwich is made with dense rye bread piled high with a variety of toppings from cold cuts to pickled herrings. Expect the smørrebrød to quickly become part of your daily routine.

Glögg

You won’t have to go far to get a glass of glögg. This mulled wine treat can be found all over Scandinavia, although you’ll find different recipes throughout the region. It’s typically made with vodka, red wine, spices like cinnamon and ginger, with a handful of raisins and almonds at the bottom of the glass. You’ll soon be saying skål!
