SUNSET CRUISE ON TONLE SAP LAKE

We hopped on board a traditional wooden boat and sailed across Tonle Sap Lake, watching local life on the lake with the beautiful sunset in the background. It was a wonderful experience to see the fish farms, floating homes and bustling markets.

SEE APSARA DANCE PERFORMANCE

A mixture between Cirque du Soleil and a Native American Pow Wow, the Apsara Dance performance is absolutely mesmerizing. Apsara, meaning “beautiful girls” in Khmer, was historically performed by girls who were believed to have supernatural powers. Back then these goddess-like women danced only for the royal family and today you can feel like royalty too. The show is a full-on production with captivating dancers, costumes and backdrops.

KDAM CHAA (FRIED CRAB)

If you’re wondering what to eat in Cambodia, you can’t go past kdam chaa, a delicious dish of stir-fried crab flavoured with local Kampot pepper, garlic and chives. It’s a delicacy on the coast where crabs are caught fresh but we’ll show you where to try it all over the country.

FISH AMOK

Don’t leave Cambodia without trying fish amok! It’s the country’s signature dish and you’ll love this creamy curry of freshwater fish cooked in eggs, fish sauce, coconut milk and kroeung, a special paste made with flavours like turmeric, lemongrass and kaffir lime.

BEEF LOC LAC

Another beloved Cambodian dish, beef loc lac is made from stir-fried strips of beef. It’s served on a bed of crispy lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and raw onions. Don’t forget to dip it in the sauce of lime juice and Kampot pepper to really make the dish sing!

The dry season from November to May is perfect for sunny Cambodia sightseeing, and we also love the monsoon season from May to November for lush green rice fields.

Any time from November to May is the best time for a city break in Cambodia, with cloudless skies, little rain and warm temperatures.

BEST TIME FOR A CAMBODIA CRUISE ON TONLE SAP LAKE

The best time to explore Tonle Sap Lake is the wet seasons from June to October, when the Mekong floods and causes the Tonle Sap River to reverse its flow, making the lake grow to five times its size.

Take your rubbish with you

Cambodia has a big waste disposal problem, so it’s better to hold onto things like plastic bags, bottles and batteries and take them back home with you.
