Known as the ‘Greek Pompeii’, Akrotiri is a wonderfully-preserved archaeological site where you can get a glimpse of life on the island around 1450 BC. Like in Pompeii, a volcano erupted, and layers of ash ended up preserving the settlements nearby. Today, the covered site’s panelled pathways take you on a journey between small homes, clay buildings, and artefacts which give a glimpse into what was like for the ancient Minoan civilization.

Mykonos isn't only an island playground with glittering seas and lavish beach bars... it's also the legendary birthplace of the god Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. We took a boat ride to Delos to see the ancient remains of the Temple of Apollo and the sanctuary of Artemis. It's one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece and you can also marvel at the old city, and take a stroll down the famous Lion Street.

Athens, my favourite place in Greece, is packed with history at every turn. Lace up your walking shoes and dive into the city’s rich artistry, stunning architecture, and archaeological treasures. From the magnificent Acropolis with views of the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian's Arch, to the Parthenon, dedicated to the goddess Athena. What I love most about Athens is its energy. It's raw and beautiful, chaotic yet welcoming.
Everyone goes gaga for gyros in Greece. These delicious wrap sandwiches (pronounced yee-ros) are a street food favourite, made with meat cooked on a rotating rotisserie and served in a soft pita wrap with fresh tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce. We’ll let you in on all the best girádika (restaurants that serve gyros) to try on your Greece holiday.
Do as the locals do and kickstart your day with a hot cup of ellinikos. The Greeks have a beloved daily coffee ritual that’s all about relaxing with a brew in hand. Whether you catch up with friends or simply watch the world go by, a Greek coffee experience is not to be missed.
These lovely Greek cookies are crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside… And packed with a delicious orange and almond flavour. Amygdalota are traditionally served after weddings and baptisms to symbolise new beginnings. You can try amygdalota in bakeries across Greece, but be warned - they’re insanely addictive.
Greece is particularly irresistible during the warmer months of summer, autumn and spring, with long sunny beach days and island hopping up for grabs.
Summer is the classic season to head off on a Greek islands holiday, but if you can’t handle the searing heat, try September and October with milder weather and superb Aegean cruises.
The best time for Greece sightseeing is the shoulder seasons of March to May and September to November, when crowds are thinner and the weather is perfect for exploring ancient treasures.
We love to go wandering the countryside around April and May, when pretty wildflowers bloom and the days are sunny and clear.
You can help keep Greece's beaches beautiful by using reef-safe sunscreens, leaving shells and any wildlife where you spot them, and never leaving any litter behind.
If you're looking for souvenirs, avoid buying natural sponges or coral products in Greece. When they're collected irresponsibly it has a destructive impact on the marine ecosystems of the region.
Take care of the environment in Greece by saying no to plastic packaging and bringing your own reusable bottles and bags when you visit Greece.
