CLIMB UP THE RAINBOW STAIRCASE TO BATU CAVES

Guarded by a monumental statue of Hindu deity Lord Murugan, the Batu Caves are a Malaysian national treasure and an unmissable day trip from Kuala Lumpur. These limestone caves harbour Hindu temples where dioramas of mythic scenes glow beneath stalactites, bats flutter in the shadows, and monkeys prey on visitors hiking the 272 stairs to Temple Cave. A must!

BAK KUT TEK

The name of this dish literally translates to ‘Bone Meat Tea’, but it’s so much more delicious than it sounds. Think juicy pork ribs cooked in a hot herbal broth and served with a plate of steaming rice. Sound good? Get ready to fall in love!

SATAY

You may have had satay before, but Malaysian satay really takes it to another level. These delicious sticks of richly marinated chunks of satay meat (usually chicken, pork or beef) are best dipped in a spicy peanut sauce, full of wonderful tangy flavours.

CHAR SIU

Char siu is a Malaysian-style barbecue pork belly that will keep you coming back for more. The meat is sliced into thin pieces, soaked in a sticky, sweet and savoury sauce, then charred to tender perfection and served with steamed rice or noodles. Delicious!

The Cameron Highlands are wonderful all year round, but if you want to see the lush greenery in full bloom, plan your visit during the wet season from November to February.
