After a long day of sightseeing in Budapest, a visit to the Szechenyi Baths is just what the doctor ordered. These soothing pools were built in the early 20th century, with water sourced from two hot thermal springs, and it's said to have healing properties. We spent hours soaking in all the saunas and whirlpools you could dream of!

Crowning the city atop Castle Hill, Buda Castle is a spectacular 13th-century palace and one of the city’s most recognisable monuments. It contains the Hungarian National Gallery, the Castle Museum, and the National Széchenyi Library. There’s no better place to get your culture fix. The views from here over the Chain Bridge, the Hungarian Parliament and the rooftops of Pest are phenomenal!
No Hungary trip is complete without finishing off a big bowl of steaming goulash. This beloved Hungarian dish is made from a stew of beef and vegetables drenched in a spicy paprika broth and served with potatoes or noodles. This is one dish you’ll definitely want to recreate when you get home!
Somlói Galuska is the most popular cake in Hungary and soon to be your new favourite dessert. It’s more like a trifle, made with pastry cream, walnuts, raisins and three different-flavoured sponge cakes. The classic way to gobble up this treat is by scooping three balls into a bowl and topping it with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Delicious!
If you’re looking to try Hungarian street food, look no further than lángos. It’s like a pizza, Hungarian style, made from deep-fried flatbread that’s crispy on the outside and pillow-soft on the inside. Topped with all kinds of flavours like cheese, sour cream, ham and garlic butter, this is one dish that will keep you coming back for more.
There's no bad time to visit in Hungary. Whether you want to see the blooming spring or snowy winter, here are some of the best times you'll love to visit this beautiful country.
No trip to Budapest is complete with a soak in the Szechenyi Baths and the best time to go is autumn or spring, when there’s fewer crowds and the thermal waters are more refreshing.
We love a Hungary city break all year round, from the shiny warm summers to the magical snowy winters and the milder autumns and springs.
If you’re dreaming of venturing out through the hilly Transdanubia region of Hungary, the best time to go is spring to see blossoming fields or autumn for golden forests.
Explore the lesser-visited areas like the medieval town of Szentendre and the historic city of Györ.
You’ll surely want to visit a bunch of coffee shops in Hungary. Help reduce waste and enjoy your coffee in a mug, or if you’re on the go, bring your own reusable cup.
When you indulge in Hungarian food at local restaurants, you’ll support the farmers and get to eat different regional dishes, plus learn about all their interesting food traditions.
