Malacca is one of the most fascinating places in Malaysia! This UNESCO-listed city has a rich past having once been a vital trading port and you can find Malay, Chinese, Dutch, British and Portuguese influences. We explored the Dutch Square, pink-coloured Stadhuys and Cheng Hoon temple, then shopped for traditional handicrafts at Kampung Kuli.

Guarded by a monumental statue of Hindu deity Lord Murugan, the Batu Caves are a Malaysian national treasure and an unmissable day trip from Kuala Lumpur. These limestone caves harbour Hindu temples where dioramas of mythic scenes glow beneath stalactites, bats flutter in the shadows, and monkeys prey on visitors hiking the 272 stairs to Temple Cave. A must!

Georgetown is the wonderfully artistic and multicultural main town of Penang and I absolutely fell in love with the gorgeous streets dotted with murals. It was like a treasure hunt as I wandered around spotting all the iconic artworks, and it's the perfect place to take some creative photos!
The name of this dish literally translates to ‘Bone Meat Tea’, but it’s so much more delicious than it sounds. Think juicy pork ribs cooked in a hot herbal broth and served with a plate of steaming rice. Sound good? Get ready to fall in love!
You may have had satay before, but Malaysian satay really takes it to another level. These delicious sticks of richly marinated chunks of satay meat (usually chicken, pork or beef) are best dipped in a spicy peanut sauce, full of wonderful tangy flavours.
Char siu is a Malaysian-style barbecue pork belly that will keep you coming back for more. The meat is sliced into thin pieces, soaked in a sticky, sweet and savoury sauce, then charred to tender perfection and served with steamed rice or noodles. Delicious!

Rain can come at any time in Malaysia’s tropical cities, but the driest months in Kuala Lumpur are June to August, while Penang sees the most sunshine between December and March.
The weather is best in beach hotspots like Langkawi and Penang during the dry season from December to March, and you'll get plenty of hot, sunny days.
The Cameron Highlands are wonderful all year round, but if you want to see the lush greenery in full bloom, plan your visit during the wet season from November to February.
Malaysia is a conservative country and it’s best to dress modestly by covering your shoulders and legs, especially when visiting a temple, mosque or any place of worship.
It may be tempting to share some treats with the monkeys around Batu Caves or at the beach, but it’s best not to as they can get aggressive and become reliant on human food.
