We're pretty proud to be the first global tour operator (alongside The Travel Corporation family of brands) with near-term, long-term and net zero targets validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). With these in our back pocket, we're well on our way to reaching our sustainable development and climate action goals, in line with the global target of keeping the global temperature rise below 1.5° C by mid-century.
We recently realised that the branded merchandise we give away produces 6.5 million car-driven miles worth of carbon emissions every year. That’s 6.5 million car-driven miles of preventable carbon emissions. As a travel company with a mission to ensure our impact on this earth is a positive one and a goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, we of course had to make a change. From December 2023, we’re putting a stop to the purchase of any branded merchandise we would have given away and instead start to reallocate those funds toward projects that help fight climate change. Through donations to Project GreenWave and the Daintree Rainforest Rescue Project we’ll be removing an extra 1.5 million car-driven miles in carbon emissions by December 2024. Isn’t it amazing what a little less “stuff” can do?
