Our road to net zero

Climate Action

People Preparing To Grow A Small Tree With Soil In The Garden

We want to be on the frontline of climate change action. So, we developed our 4-point Climate Action Plan in 2021, which details how we'll reduce our emissions. We're backing big, bold ideas that tackle climate action head-on and support biodiversity through nature-based carbon solutions.

Our Science-Based Targets

We're pretty proud to be the first global tour operator (alongside The Travel Corporation family of brands) with near-term, long-term and net zero targets validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). With these in our back pocket, we're well on our way to reaching our sustainable development and climate action goals, in line with the global target of keeping the global temperature rise below 1.5° C by mid-century.

Near-term targets (2030)

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, business travel, and use of sold products 27.5% within the same timeframe

Long-term target (2050)

  • Reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2019 base year

Net zero target

Our Projects

Putting Our Planet First

In 2022, we launched our Carbon Fund to show that we mean business in fighting climate change. This fund supports projects that cut our carbon emissions, push us closer to net zero, and generally give our planet the love it deserves. We keep tabs on the Carbon Fund's progress and share it in our Impact Reports, but Costsaver’s fund will specifically focus on: Generating and utilizing renewable energy across all our offices and facilities Securing zero-emission vehicles for our tours Reducing the carbon footprint of our tours in collaboration with the supply chain and destinations.

The Treadright Foundation Projects

But that's not all. Our TreadRight Foundation takes it up a notch by investing in nature-based solutions that tackle climate change and protect our precious biodiversity.

One of their latest initiatives is with Trees For Life, dedicated to re-wilding the Scottish Highlands and restoring Scotland’s globally important Caledonian Forest and its unique wildlife.

We’re Saying No to “more Stuff” and Yes to Net Zero

We recently realised that the branded merchandise we give away produces 6.5 million car-driven miles worth of carbon emissions every year. That’s 6.5 million car-driven miles of preventable carbon emissions. As a travel company with a mission to ensure our impact on this earth is a positive one and a goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, we of course had to make a change. From December 2023, we’re putting a stop to the purchase of any branded merchandise we would have given away and instead start to reallocate those funds toward projects that help fight climate change. Through donations to Project GreenWave and the Daintree Rainforest Rescue Project we’ll be removing an extra 1.5 million car-driven miles in carbon emissions by December 2024. Isn’t it amazing what a little less “stuff” can do?
