Fez

1,200 years in the making, Fez is one of Morocco’s oldest cities. It has some 10,000 streets – the liveliest of which can be found in the medina, a labyrinth of local life and narrow lanes. Take a walk through them and master the art of haggling along the way. Be sure to put your newfound negotiation skills to the test and pick up a beautiful Moroccan carpet at a beautiful price. When you’re done shopping, soak up the city’s grander sights, like the Royal Palace, former home of the Moroccan Sultans.

Marrakesh

With mopeds zigzagging between donkey-pulled carts, Marrakesh is filled with unforgettable moments of old meets new. Experience the ornate serenity of Bahia Palace, before making your way to the vast and vibrant Djemaa el-Fna square, home to all manner of entertainers, from the mesmerising to the mind-boggling. Then, disappear into the bamboo-covered souks, for a spot of bargain hunting. After indulging in a bit of retail therapy, journey to the outskirts of the city and visit a Berber village in Ourika Valley.

Rabat

As Morocco’s seventh-largest city, Rabat is unsurprisingly laid-back. Nevertheless, the country’s cosmopolitan capital – a UNESCO World Heritage site – vibrates with history, hosting stunning monuments from Phoenician, Almohad, Merenid, Roman, and more recent times.  Be sure to visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, a beautiful white building, which houses the tombs of the Moroccan king and his two sons. If you have time, take a stroll to the 12th century Kasbah des Oudaias, exploring the narrow alleys nearby. From there, drink in breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
